First AI Fake News Arrest

In China, a man has been detained for using ChatGPT to create a fake story about a train crash. This marks the country’s first arrest in an AI-related probe as Beijing tightens rules around deepfake technology. The story gained over 15,000 clicks after being published on social media. China’s new rules for deepfake aim to curb the use of generative AI technology to produce untrue information. The suspect, surnamed Hong, was identified and arrested for concocting false information after police traced all the accounts and found his company was involved. Investigations are ongoing.
