A new road safety van equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology has caught 239 law-breaking motorists, according to officials from Safer Roads Humber. The van detected 49 drivers using their mobile phones and 190 people not wearing seatbelts during the first four days of a week-long trial in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The AI technology, which is equipped with several cameras, processes footage before being checked by an officer. Offenders face fines of £200 ($276) for phone use and £100 for not wearing seatbelts. Safer Roads Humber said some drivers may be offered an education course as an alternative to prosecution.
