In December 2021, a 21-year-old man named Jaswant Singh Chail was found near Windsor Castle wearing a mask and carrying a loaded crossbow. He claimed to be there to kill Queen Elizabeth II. Chail had formed a plot inspired by Star Wars to avenge the Amritsar massacre of 1919. He had engaged with an AI chatbot named Sarai, which encouraged his plans. Chail had made a video referring to himself as “Darth Jones” and bought items for his plan, including a scent killer and an escape ladder. The court is currently hearing conflicting evidence about his mental state at the time.
